Sword Drill

SCRIPTURE:        Pick a passage or section of scripture, wherever you are in your reading/studies, and just read it. Read it slowly, patiently working your way through it.

WAIT:                After reading the passage/section, just sit. (We know it can be uncomfortable to just be still). Be still and wait on the Lord. See what He might bring to your attention about the passage/section. Give God the room in your head and heart to speak.

OBSERVE:          As you are waiting on the Lord, observe some to the things coming to mind, trusting that the Holy Spirit is guiding your thoughts. Write some of your observations down. What hits you differently as you read through the passage again? Observe what God might be telling you about you or your season of life, and write them down.

REQUEST:          Now that you have made some observations or what the Lord might be speaking to you about, ask Him to reveal more. Request from the Lord what He might be asking you to change, start or stop. Ask Him to give you clear direction on what to do with this new truth He has revealed.

DEDICATE:        Dedicate yourself now that you have read, waited on the Lord, made observations of what He might be speaking to you, and ask the Lord what He might be calling you to do. Make a dedication. The worst thing to do with a new revelation is nothing. Do something. Make a plan to implement, change, start or stop what God is nudging you toward.

Try this simple tool and see how God might use it in your daily/weekly readings of scripture.

                             Happy digging!
